Under the leadership of senior captains Maggie Drew ‘18, Jen Yeo ‘18, and Mia Talkovsky ‘18, Lick-Wilmerding Girl’s Cross Country team has remained undefeated this season. Unfortunately, due to decreased air quality from the devastating North Bay fires, two meets were canceled, so the team had fewer opportunities to race than they’ve had in previous years. During their last home meet at the Polo Fields, on October 25, 2017, the team beat University High School, their primary rival, 31-26. Their BCL race on November 3, 2017 determined that Maggie Drew ‘18, Alison Savage Brooks ‘19, Viva Donohoe ‘20,  Jeannie Moreno ‘20, Mira Terdiman ‘20, Lauren Hanneken ‘21, and Maya Lacamp ‘21 will go to Hayward on November 18, 2017 to compete in the NCS race. Notably, Terdiman one this 3.1 mile BCL race with a time of 19:14. After NCS, these seven runners and an alternate will go to the State Championship in Fresno the following week, granted that they finish within the top six teams in their division––which they’ve done for the past six years. In fact, the team has finished second in NCS for the past two years. They aim to win NCS this year and have runners finish in the top three podium positions at States. Reflecting on last year’s State Championship, in which the team placed fourth, only one point behind third, Drew says, “I think we’ve learned from our mistakes from last year and we’re ready to give it our all at States this year.”
