Chelsea Deras joins the Lick-Wilmerding High School community as the College Counseling Assistant. She organizes meetings with the college counselors, coordinates college visits and keeps in contact with families and students. She also maintains the welcoming spirit of the college counseling office. Deras explained she was drawn to LWHS by the kind community. “Everyone’s just so super friendly and they try to integrate you into it,” she said.
Deras grew up in San Francisco, attending Visitacion Valley Elementary School, Aptos Middle School and Balboa High School, which is right down the street from LWHS. After high school, she attended San José State University, majoring in Child Development. In her freshman year of college, Deras got involved with non-profits that worked primarily with kids, teens and high schoolers. Deras later worked at the afterschool program at Balboa High School before transitioning to the LWHS community.
Even though she is familiar with the city, Deras still enjoys exploring new places around San Francisco. She loves the restaurants on Irving Street and especially loves Korean food. “I can eat Korean food every day,” she said.
At the moment, one of Deras’ favorite activities is to go to Starbucks for the classic fall pumpkin spice latte and later hang out at the beach with friends. “After The Little Mermaid came out, I was obsessed with going to the beach,” she said. She is also a huge fan of the Barbie movie.
She loves to laugh and joke around, and with her charismatic personality, conversation comes easily. “I have many interests,” she said. “We could probably talk about anything.” So if you are around the college counseling office, feel free to stop by and ask about her passion for travel, dance or K-pop.
