Playlist of the Week: Eileen O’Kane

Ms O’Kane has chosen to comment on each song. The comments follow the order of the playlist.

1. This was the first dance at our wedding. 2. I played this over and over again after a pretty intense break up when I was in my ’20s. 3. I was/am a DMB fan, but this reminds me of college – I play a pretty mean air violin to this song. 4. My first name is Eileen and this song has been a part of my life since I was a little kid. My first record (yes, the large black disks that used to play music, but this was a 45) was Come on Eileen. My older brother won it at a festival and gave it to me. 5. I love Ben Harper and he is incredible live. This is a slow song, but I think it is beautiful. 6. I am a big Spearhead/Michael Franti fan. My brother introduced me to them when I was in high school. We went to a wedding and asked the DJ to play this song – we were the only two on the dance floor. It’s a fun memory. 7. I don’t tend to listen to country music, but this song reminds me of a retreat I went on right after high school. My friend had just lost her dad, and we’d listen to this over and over again. I also went to this concert with my sister and my husband, and he is an amazing performer. 8. When I would go through periods of depression in college, my best friend would play this for me. 9. I like a lot of U2 songs, but this is one of my favorites. 10. When I played Gaelic Football for Clan Na Gael this song was one of our songs. We’d all get on the dance floor when this played.
