With all the sitting around at home during quarantine, listening to music was a must to keep the Paper Tiger staff sane. Here are some of the Paper Tiger staff’s favorite songs that got them through quarantine this year!
Tessa Fastiff ’24 (Toe Jam by David Byrne) “I spent a lot of time listening to music with my family, and my mom liked this song so much she bought an CD of the album. The song is very cheery. We first heard it before Covid on SNL and it took us a while to learn the name of the song, but once we found it we listened to it often.”
Anabel Harris ’24 (Harvest Moon by Neil Young) “A major part of my lockdown experience was bonding with my family. My dad’s favorite artist is Neil Young, and listening to this song in particular reminds me of that. I loved to listen to Harvest Moon when I was feeling more isolated, and it was a good reminder of my family’s support.”
Charlotte Kane ’22 (I Feel by The Sundays) “Throughout quarantine I spent a lot of time listening to The Sundays and obsessively researching the lead singer, Harriet Wheeler. I’ve learned to play some of their songs as well, and my favorite album is Blind.”
Charlotte King ’24 (American Girl by Tom Petty) “I spent a lot of my quarantined summer in the car with my mom. With all this time on the road we began to go crazy from playing our well listened mutual playlist. We began to share some of our favorite songs with one another, recovering ones we hadn’t listened to in years but loved. One that my mom reminded me of was American Girl. I listen to this song an excessive amount and am reminded of fond memories spent bonding with my family over the summer.”
Nina Laser ’23 (Take On Me by a-ha) “Take On Me has been one of my all time favorite songs since my family got Just Dance 3 for our Wii in 2011 and it was one of the featured songs. It’s one of those songs that I am reminded of once every couple months, but it never gets old and gives me energy thinking of all the dance moves I know by heart.”
Keira Nakamura ’22 (the lakes by Taylor Swift) “With two new albums and Taylor’s version of Fearless, Taylor Swift’s music has been instrumental in helping me get through quarantine. In particular, I loved this song because the descriptions of nature helped transport me away from the monotonous setting of my room.”
Emily Nguyen ’23 (Sure Thing by Miguel) “I listened to this before going anywhere”.
Dylan Sibbitt ’22 (Picture This by Kero Kero Bonito) “Throughout quarantine I ended up listening to a lot of upbeat music and went through Kero Kero Bonito’s entire Bonito Generation album a million times.”
Naomi Taxay ’23 (Apartment by Young the Giant) I always played the album ‘Young the Giant’ when I cleaned my room every morning during quarantine, and this song always got me in a good mood!”
Jacob Weiner ’23 (53.49 by Childish Gambino) “I listened to this song a lot on walks, a favorite quarantine activity of mine.”
