Michelle De Leon

Michelle De Leon is welcomed into the Lick-Wilmerding High School community as the new Associate Director of Admissions – Outreach and Engagement. Her role at LWHS introduces many new responsibilities, like working with the Tiger Ambassadors and the Lick-Wilmerding Admission Interns (LWAIs). De Leon notices many parallels between her previous position in the admission office at The San Francisco School (SFS), which ease her adjustment into the LWHS community. At SFS, De Leon helped students and families with the high school application process, led an advisory for four years, ran student council and planned non-academic programs.

She loves immersive roles because she feels most gratified when working directly with students and hopes to have her own advisory here at LWHS one day too. “When this role came up at Lick, I was really excited because I think a big part of my job and why I can be successful at my job is working with the students,” she said.

De Leon was born in the Philippines but has lived in Northern California since she was in the second grade. As an outdoor enthusiast, she appreciates the diverse nature in California and the constant proximity to good hiking trails. Outside of LWHS, De Leon enjoys hiking around the Bay Area, climbing, baking and cooking and hanging out with her dog, a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon.

De Leon was drawn to LWHS’ Public Purpose Program (PPP) and finds it empowering for students and teachers alike. She believes her values naturally align with the curriculum at LWHS and is excited to continue her journey as an educator. “I love the Public Purpose work that the school does here, to have the Center really empowering students to take on leadership and challenge what’s going on in the world, and also to give back to the community,” she said.

This year, De Leon hopes to immerse herself in the LWHS community so that she can best convey its warm, welcoming spirit to prospective students and families.
