A History of LWHS’ Racial Integration
Long before Lick-Wilmerding was the multicultural, empowering school it is today, LWHS was an all-white institution. Today, LWHS has affinity groups for nearly every core-identifier, […]
“LWHS History Project,” originally published as a magazine, is an exploration into the long and complicated history of Lick-Wilmerding High School. With the help of Head Librarian Danielle Farinacci, the Paper Tiger staff went to the Archives Room in the LWHS Library and looked through various physical documents and reports the school has kept, dating back to the 1870s.
Examining the past century and a half of LWHS in depth, the staff has worked together to create an accurate timeline and retelling of the history of our school. We explored the throughlines that connect our school to the three that preceded it, and looked at the evolution of LWHS over time.
As we did, you are encouraged to explore the Archives Room, talk to alumni or faculty to further unlock more of the rich history of such a great school.
