Thousands of people poured into the streets of San Francisco on Saturday in a spontaneous show of joy and relief after major news outlets declared former Vice President Joe Biden the winner of the presidential election.
Singing, dancing and drinking, the mostly-masked crowd grew throughout the day and filled at least two blocks on Castro Street. Music blared from loudspeakers and honking car horns added to the cacophony.
Several other celebrations took place around the city, including at nearby Dolores Park and on Valencia Street in the hours after the race was called.
